02-02 BOOK REVIEW: Built on Trust by Arky Cianutti, M.D. and Thomas Steding, Ph.D.

I recently read Built on Trust, by Arky Ciancutti, M.D. and Thomas Steding, Ph.D.

The authors offer a Trust Model that is designed to achieve high levels of job satisfaction and encourage employee commitment.  Common sense is not always common practice, so the authors bring the reader back to some basic tenets of changing the culture to one of mutual respect and closure.  The objective of the book is not to make the reader feel all warm and fuzzy, however.  The authors point out how organizations that are built on trust have a competitive advantage.

I believe this is a great book for fairly new HR professionals because it’s very practical.  You can read it over the weekend and begin to apply the principles on Monday.  Particularly if your organization is experiencing communication problems, the authors provide techniques you need to review to help people reach closure after every interaction.

Here’s how I rate books:

óóóó Gotta Get It
óóó Some Good Learnings--Get it for the Beach or Weekend Reading
óó Get the Cliff Notes
ó Save Your Money

My rating for Built on Trust is óóó.
